Get a Little Gold: 10,000 Downloads on Google Play!
Get a Little Gold (my long-form idle/incremental game) has just passed 10,000 downloads on Google Play, and it now has 200+ positive reviews! This is a huge milestone for me, and it happened entirely thanks to you.
18 months, zero ad budget
It took almost 18 months on Google Play to get here. And here’s the part I’m proudest of: every single one of those downloads is organic. I haven’t spent a single cent on marketing or advertising.
Every player who installed the game found it on their own, or heard about it from the community.
How we got here
In the beginning, almost all new players came from my own posts on social media, YouTube and Discord . Google Play itself barely sent anyone. Honestly, I was happy to see even 3 or 4 random downloads from Google Play explore.
But the more updates I released, and the more reviews you left, the more Google Play started showing the game to new players by itself.
Everything changed around September 2026. Daily installs from Google Play explore suddenly jumped to 50+, and on the record days I saw 150+ downloads from explore alone.
To put it in perspective: it took 11 months to reach 5,000 downloads (I wrote about that in 1 Year on Google Play), and only a bit more than 6 months to double that number.
Your reviews made the difference
Those 200+ positive reviews are a big reason Google Play started pushing the game. For a solo developer with no advertising budget, every review counts, so thank you to everyone who took a minute to write one.
A lot of what changed in the game over these months came from listening to your feedback, on Discord , in reviews and in comments. Please keep it coming!
I don’t know if this wave of new players will last, or for how long. But I’ll keep doing what got us here: listening to you and delivering updates.
